A really short blog, just a look at a couple of nights ago. I’m not sure how many of you caught (I was just about to write catched then I realised what the correct terminology is) the women’s final of French Open. I did. Most of you will know that I exhibit true poser qualities by only watching/following tennis for the Australian Open, but I decided to watch this time cos I love my live sport but mainly cos Aussie Samantha Stosur was in the final.
Of course you guys already knew this and how she went on a giant killing (in some cases, literally) spree in order to reach the final. Her last hurdle was the Italian number 17 seed, Something Schiavone. Or so everyone thought. Whilst I was watching her play I noticed something. Something that caught my eye and pressed a button immediately on the inside of my brain. A small silver ring hanging delicately from a small silver chain around her neck. Yes, THAT ring. The one ring to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them, etc, etc.

You can clearly see the ring in this photo as Schiavone prepares to throw some kitchen stuff at Stosur.
My Middle Age War senses began to tingle. Surely she could not be Sauron. Surely. But alas, there was clearly no other logical explanation to that small ring on her neck. And if you haters out there don’t yet believe me, then how about the fact that both Schiavone AND Sauron start with S? My case is fast asleep. I know you eager readers out there immediately realised there is something wrong with this. How could Samantha Stosur even put up a fight then? Surely Schiavone wouldn’t risk playing poorly as a disguise in the FRENCH OPEN FINAL!

Schiavone on the weekends and Friday nights.
Well, I soon discovered the answer. Sam Stosur is in fact a trained Jedi Knight. Impossible! I hear James Tang gasp. Well, actually, it is true. On numerous occasions I saw hit the ball over the net at high speeds and make it drop into the opposing court. There is clearly no force in nature that allows a ball to just ‘fall’ like that. She must have been using the force.

Stosur tried to be sneaky about her abilties, but I was a little too sharp for her.
The battle raged on for many millions of years, and Schiavone emerged the victor. Stosur played real well and all and it was really good to see an Australian doing so well. Pity she lost and all, but you can just tell the work she has put into her game. Was great to see her beat 3 former and current World No. 1’s on her road to the final. Even better to know that there’s an Aussie Jedi out there. I thought most of them were from a galaxy far far away.
Anyways, I won’t harp on too much longer, for I must get my bow and arrows ready and get ready for the war, but I’ll just let you guys know to be a bit more interested in women’s sports from now on. OK who am I kidding.
Well now I just realised that all those jokes will just whizz past your brains cos most of you guys haven’t watched both of the movies I’m talking about, and some haven’t watched either (thanks Sy.) Far out, someone link Bryan or something. Anyways, I’ll make a blog that more people can understand later on when I have something real to talk about.
